- Gays cannot marry
- Gays are inferior to straights
- Gays oppress straights
With that argument they have engaged the society at large in a very divisive discussion, not about marriage, but about gay people in general. You see this front group is very well funded by Opus Dei and The Knights of Columbus, two occult Catholic fraternities who follow the orders not of our constitution and laws but that of the Holy See.
NOM is very interesting phenomenon and I have decided to research it further and as a queer researcher I start out by just doing some casual observations of the organization itself, starting with its name.
NOM should actually be called something like "National Organization Against Gay Marriage" or something on that line because that is its primary function - to oppose gay marriage at all costs, even by actually neglecting and avoiding issues like the economy, health care, child services, education, and working/career moms, these are issues that actually very much affect marriage itself. Instead its focus centers on us gay people and what we do.
But it is interesting to note that The National Organization for Marriage is nothing about marriage. So I looked into their namesake a little more. After all, the leaders of the group did actually sit down, thought and drafted out the name of their new precious organization. What I point out may, or may not be, intentional on their part. I am just making observations, and as a queer researcher all I can say is take it for what its worth.
At first I notice that their name is well suited to be shrunk down to he infamous easy to pronounce acronym: NOM. Making an objective observation on just that acronym I can say its not very catchy nor appears on the surface as clever. When you search for images on Google for "nom" you get pics of people eating, because that is the cartoon-style sound of indulging in food: "nom, nom, nom."

One particular observation right of the bat is that its acronym is three letters: N-O-M. Other organization usually have more letters like GLAAD, or GLSEN, among others. Three is a very important symbol in religious teachings of the Catholic Church. You have the father, the son, and the holy ghost, which derived from ancient astrotheology of the Sun (or the Sun of God aka "son of god") having three particular important spots in the sky: sunrise, noon, sunset. Also life has three important stages according to early Christian teachings: birth (the son) middle age (fatherhood, or the father) death (the holy ghost). In many Christian stories the number three appears throughout: the three wise men, the three angels who visited Lot in Sodom (who had to avoid all those nasty homosexuals who wanted to rape them), three people being crucified at once (Jesus, and the two thieves) and so on. Also as I noted in the beginning, NOM is promoting three different ideas.
Looking at the letters themselves is interesting as well. N-O-M are three letters of the alphabet that are next to each other (M, N, O) and are still grouped together. N in ancient Egypt represented the Snake, O was the eye, and M was water. These three things are very much symbolic in Christian mythology, and quite interestingly they have nothing to do with procreation, marriage, children, or family. Most of these symbols in the Bible were tied to stories related to power, politics, war and territory, although water does have some connection to procreation (my water broke) but its mostly not Christian (it is mostly derived from ancient Babylon) and it has to do mostly with birth, not actual insemination. However one can play with these symbols, for instance if I mix them up I come up with snake oil salesman. Try it for yourself.
Now putting the acronym into a word is also something worth looking at. Nom is actually word in French. The French language is very important in Vatican theology and various Catholic groups use French as one of their official languages. Nom translated simply means "war name." It is quite suitable for the group since they have for the past few years engaged in theological warfare against anybody that supports gay marriage. They have been able to launder money to campaigns and oppose politicians who defy them just on the issue of gay marriage. Its tactics are battle like, and war-ish in theme. This leads me to believe that those (mainly the Vatican) that oppose gays and their marriages are now seeing that they are losing the tide and of course had to join in coalition in holy war against gay marriage and founded NOM not that long ago. Remember that NOM was only founded after most of the states have adopted constitutional amendments banning gay marriage during the 2000 - 2006 period. Only very few states had banned gay marriage by amendment or people's veto since NOM's birth.
NOM is very secretive and clandestine. It refuses to let anyone see their financial reports or let us know who is funding them. My best bet is that there is some sever money laundering going on, and the whole "our donors will be harassed" excuse is only a facade.
My research is only just beginning. It will be very deep, very open-minded, and hopefully very enlightening to us the common folk.
