- A Chinese immigrant talked about how his family escaped the "PC" communist regime of Mao to come to the United States, 'land of the free, home of the brave.' It took me a second to realize what this all meant and I finally got it: those who want gay people to live their lives in peace, freedom and happiness are fascist, Mao-loving, totalitarian, communists. The same communist dictators who killed thousands of gay Chinese for decades. Because those who want gay marriage for gay people actually are avid Maoists who would in the end execute them. Got it?
- A lady said that it was very much illegal to be gay in the United States back decades ago. In fact I do remember that many colonies and early states of the Union did made "sodomy" illegal punishable by death or castration. Thomas Jefferson, who at the time showed tremendous sympathy to the "nancies," advocated for castration of gay men instead of killing them, BUT...
- Another lady who was black said that gays have never suffered any discrimination in the history of our nation. Only blacks did and continue to do so. See, only blacks get discriminated in this country, not Jews, Catholics, disabled people, Latinos, immigrants, old folks, gun owners, single people, married people, gays, fat people, gingers, women, men etc.
- A gentleman went up and said that those of us who want to have gay marriage are advocating for the devil, and for the beast (I thought they were the same guy, Satan). Then he claimed that members of the committee who vote for the bill, including the governor, will end up facing Satan and going to hell to burn. A committee member gently pointed out that the Governor's wife has apologized for calling people like this witness who opposed gay marriage "cowards" and that people should refrain from name-calling. Oops.
- Then someone came up with an idea to call gay marriage "counterfeit marriage" ... meaning that it is fake. You know, like those fake marriages that are arranged with illegal immigrants for green cards in exchange for the other green (money of course). Or is it fake because the gay people who want to marry are not "real?" So what are we saying here? Gays are just a figment of our imagination? Or more likely, gays are just not real human beings who cannot have or feel real human love.
- Some folks decided also to use the children, saying that gay marriage will be taught in schools, even one teacher came out and said that parents would have to take their kids out and home schooled them so that...
- They can bring them in, including one 14 year old girl, to committees like these to wish as a birthday gift that gay marriage be voted down so that she doesn't need to be at hearings like these and have gay marriage shoved down her threat. Poor thing.
- And by the way just in case you forgot: gay marriage is not a civil rights issue and should be voted on by the people. But other issues like war, economy, banking, jobs, healthcare, you know things that really affect us all, those issues can be well managed and decided by congress and politicians, ooh but gay marriage, now that's different.
Well that is what I can remember. No real memorable moments from our side. Just the usual points.
