The last thing that social conservatives are is "conservative." Typically conservatives harp all day long about the free market this and that. I also believe in the free market as well, and I am not conservative. The free market is a good place to share ideas, test new inventions, share wealth and information (but of course there are a few corporations who want to rig the whole thing, and this is why I'm not conservative, because conservatives don't care about crony capitalism and monopolies and their ill effect on our nation).
But also the free market in a free society an entity, whether a person or a company, can introduce new or old ideas and play with them. The whole concept of the free market is that people are "free" to do what they think is profitable and worth wild, unless of course you are a social conservative who is on a mission to destroy the gay community, like the infamous American Family Association, which among other things, advocates for gays to be imprisoned for possible "threat" to America's national security. So then when you start demanding that the free market bow down to your ideology without any good reason or formative argument it is not "free" but in essence a tyrannical demand on an institution that moves based on where the chips may fall, and right now the chips are falling more in our favor.
The AFA has in the past, among other social conservative groups, accused the gay community for "imposing" on the free market via boycotts on certain companies and even by calling such activity, which they by all means engage in as well, "economic terrorism." So today the AFA is engaging in what they themselves describe as the same "economic terrorism" that we were being accused of. They are now angry and calling for boycotts on Starbucks and Macy's, but not just to boycott them but to continually demand without proper reason why the free market rules should not apply in this case. If the AFA was so sure of itself and its ideology, then it should politely call for a boycott and see what happens in time without the need to make utter demands and claims without substance that most people are on their side and that they are disgusted by homosexuality. Don't just say it, prove it. Without proof, the free market will just ignore them, like they have in the past.
But all of this is just fluff. Those who really support free markets know that the free market will follow what is most profitable, even when some of us might question or find some things unethical, in the free market you are also free not to participate or offer an alternative. But that is not what the cry-babies at the AFA are doing. Instead of voluntary boycotts of conscience they demand that companies change the rules for them. That is not free market, that is just old fashion mob tactics.
