Colombian Soccer Official: 'There Is No Worse Illness Than Homosexualism'

The President of the official Colombian national soccer league, Alvaro Gonzalez Alzate, discussed in an interview a controversial subject relating to rumors that many of the prominent referees of the country might be gay and may be engaging in sex scandals for on the field favoritism, making a bold revelation that you have to be gay in order to be a referee.

According to Mr. Alzate, he blames homosexuality for the referees new low professionalism in world soccer.

"Our referees used to be the top three, now we are not even in the top ten," he complained. He went on further to claim that the problem goes deeper in youth leagues suggesting that young boys and men will "do anything" to get a soccer team going in the league, implying that gay referees exploit these young soccer enthusiasts sexually for special favors and access to league resources.

Alzate also talked about homosexuality in general. "To me personally, this has me worried... And that is why I can say that there is nothing more infectious, there is no worse illness, if you can call it that, than homosexualism."

Alzate promises more "control" over the matter. However many LGBT activists in Columbia are protesting the remarks that compare homosexuality to an "illness."

There are other gay activists who are calling for the President's resignation from the league as well as for the journalist, who later on called homosexuality "abnormal" and that he was concerned for the children who played the sport, to resign for violating the Colombian Constitution which guarantees freedom from discrimination and protection of defamation and human rights.
