Jackson County Clerk Amanda Riska said the county will begin accepting marriage license applications "as soon as possible" following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing gay couples to legally marry across the country.
Banning same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday, June 26, striking down a Michigan law passed by voters in 2004 that limited marriage to heterosexual couples.
Riska said there will be a slight delay following the high court's ruling for "neutral" marriage license applications to be mailed to the county from the state.
