Why are Drudge Readers so Homophobic?

While looking at the Drudge Report we noticed some new articles about Obama's gay marriage revelations and were reading a nice article by the Washington Times covering a fundraiser that was being hosted by Ricky Martin.

Said article was going to be our lead link for The Gay Report but we kept reading along and went down the line of comments almost all of them filled with homophobic statements, some saying that "these queens" made them "puke," while most of them demanding that gays go back in the closet because we are destroying America.

This is true for the most part with many other articles that have been linked on Drudge as we see too many people post homophobic comments on these articles constantly. We have also noticed that any time a news article on a gay website is linked on Drudge we have see a sudden surge of comments, all of them disparaging gay people in a negative way.

But this latest article's comments went too far for us we decided not to post it as our lead link, but if you want read it and its vile comments go ahead so you will know what we are talking about.

We have nothing against Drudge Report, we think it is a really nice site and of course it was the inspiration for this site. But reading what most Drudge readers are saying about gay people like us is disheartening, disappointing, and really sad. We hope that in due time Drudge readers will let go of their prejudices and spread the kind of fear that incubates discrimination, hatred and violence against gay people.

We have tried to look the other way, but come on -- we got to draw the line somewhere. We have received many complaints about this Drudge problem but our motto has been that we care about the article not about what anonymous web trolls have to say about gays. However, since we have witnessed a spike of recent gay teen suicides due to homophobia and bullying we will strive to be more careful from here on out in choosing which articles to feature on The Gay Report.
