The Gay Report To Boycott CNN Until They Fire Roland Martin

UPDATE (2/12/12): Roland Martin has been suspended from CNN due to the tweet and he is supposedly going to meet with GLAAD.

We think that this is still insufficient due to the fact that Martin is in fact anti-gay and has had a history of being against gay people. Our reaction to Martin was not based on just one tweet but on a well documented past of homophobia and support of 'ex-gay' therapy. We find that such therapy is unethical, unhealthy, and in some cases very dangerous besides its obvious fraudulent nature.

For now we will end our boycott against CNN for the time being. We hope that in due time the network will see to it that a man like Martin deserves a more permanent suspension. We also feel that "talks" with GLAAD are totally a waste and unnecessary, since his wife and others are bolstering that such engagements are meant to "brainwash" Martin and to "oppress" his anti-gay feelings and making it seem like GLAAD and the gay community are trying to indoctrinate him and the general public. We feel that it is best to denounce and fire Martin from CNN and to, in the end, part ways.

CNN news guy, Roland Martin, has been caught making an off-the-cuff tweet condemning men who like David Beckham's underwear. The full scoop is here.

Roland Martin has had a very rocky history with the gay community. He has:

• Defended Rick Warren, who has opposed gay rights, in being selected to give the invocation at Obama's inaugural address.
• Defended Tracy Morgan's homophobic comments about killing gay children.
• Boasted that his wife had helped turned many gay men "away from the homosexual lifestyle."

The entire Gay Report staff has agreed to boycott CNN until Roland Martin is rightly fired from the network. We will no longer link to CNN, any of its subdivisions, including articles and the like, until Roland Martin is fired. This was long over due and all of us at The Gay Report have had enough of Roland Martin.

We call on all members of the gay community, including bloggers and news agencies to boycott CNN as well.

Until then, CNN will no longer exist on our site.
