Cindy McCain's Claim Of GOP Being 'Gay Friendly,' 'For Equality' Doesn't Fit Reality

Friend of the LGBT community and wife to former GOP Presidential nominee and US Senator John McCain, Cindy McCain, has made a claim that the Republican Party is in her view pro-gay and 'for equality.' Her activism has to be commended as she has advocated for equal rights for gay Americans. But she must know that as she has advocated for our equal rights that the greatest political opposition to that fight has come mainly from the republican party.

Although there some republicans who are on our side, like  Mayor Jerry Sanders of San Diego, Laura Bush, Dick Cheney, Ted Olson, and some more republicans who have voted in favor of gay marriage in New York and Washington. There many other republicans and conservatives who remain nameless who are in the front lines of fighting for gay equality. But what many of these individuals will tell you is that their own party is not on the same page with them, and it is quite fascinating that someone like Cindy McCain refuses to admit the rampant homophobia that many of her colleagues have to face.

GOProud has even admitted that the main reason why they were booted from C-PAC was because of the fact that the group is gay. Former republican Senator Alan Simpson also threw his two cents in and commented that the party is filled with homophobes.

The base and structure of the party is indeed not what should be called 'gay friendly,' but quite the opposite. Rick Santorum who happens to be the most homophobic candidate we have seen since Pat Buchanan, has made sever anti-gay remarks, comparing gays to dogs, and now he is the apparent front runner for the GOP nomination as many in the GOP base decided that his stance on "family issues" was what motivated them to support such homophobic person.

The party has officially stated that they want to make homosexuality and gay marriage a crime, calling it a danger against the social fabric. Even republicans in California reaffirmed that position. Republicans are also for legalizing bullying against gay students. Republicans also believe that AIDS is only a gay disease that cannot contracted through heterosexual sex. Republicans also do not believe that hate crimes against gay people are real and that such crimes are hoaxes. The republican base has declared gay people to be threat to national security and has compared gays to terrorists. Republicans also make fun of dead gay people in front of their parents. Its also GOP policy that gays are "incompatible to serve in the military." And lets not forgot that republicans are so opposed to gays in the military that they will even boo gay soldiers.

The list goes on and on. So it is hard for any reasonable person to actually take Cindy's word for it.
