REPORT: North Carolina gay couples could be denied marriage licenses if lawmakers succeed in veto override...

Last Thursday, Pat McCrory, the Republican governor of North Carolina, vetoed SB-2, saying, “I recognize that for many North Carolinians, including myself, opinions on same-sex marriage come from sincerely held religious beliefs that marriage is between a man and a woman. However, we are a nation and a state of laws.” But, on Tuesday, the state senate overrode that veto, with a vote of 32-16. (It takes a three-fifths majority to do so.) If the North Carolina house overrides the veto as well, the bill will become law.
