Leading Republicans issued restrained responses to the historic Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, an indication that the issue is unlikely to be a priority for the GOP-led Congress.
Republicans broadly said they would accept the 5-4 ruling from the Supreme Court, even if the law diverged from their personal beliefs on marriage. Speaker John Boehner said in a statement he was “disappointed” with the decision. But the Ohio Republican gave no indication the House would consider legislation pushed by some conservatives to strip federal courts of jurisdiction for marriage-related litigation or block the use of federal funds to enforce a same-sex marriage ruling.
