Mayor Dick Moore, as promised, has submitted a proposal to expand civil rights protections to cover the gay and transgender community.
In doing so, he referenced the contentious debate in late March and early April that accompanied approval by state lawmakers of the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act. “We don’t want the state’s recent decisions to hamper our economy by sending discriminatory messages to those wanting to visit, live and do business in our great city,” Moore said in a written message to the Elkhart City Council.
