Houston's top cop and his subordinates sought to soothe rattled residents by some recent attacks in Montrose.

The crowded meeting took place in east Montrose, near where a man was robbed and shot after leaving a gay club in mid-February. John Gaspari, who attended the meeting Saturday morning, said he was targeted because of his sexual orientation and called the attack a hate crime.
