EDITORIAL: Republican Party of Michigan added to anti-gay hate group index

The Editorial Board has decided to add the Republican Party of Michigan to The Gay Report's anti-gay hate group index.

The group has been monitored for the last year by the Board and recent events and inaction of the party leadership to rectify such events has lead to the Board's decision for inclusion.

Recent events include a dully elected official of the group who made online postings claiming that gays are responsible for inner city murders, live 'filthy lifestyles,' are pedophiles, die very young, and increase health care costs; said postings were cited to studies done by a well-known white supremacist and anti-gay hate activist; and members of the group have voiced support for this official's posting.

The group is also violating the Republican Party's National Platform's clause of ensuring that everybody be 'treated with dignity and respect.'

We find that the group is heavily influenced by anti-gay hate and animus of its operatives, supporters, officials and leaders.

We have also received reports from members of the group of an environment growing in hateful animus against gay people that is being condoned and supported by the group's leadership.
