The Board has decided today to add The National Organization for Marriage to the Anti-Gay Hate Group Index located on our home page.
After several months of monitoring the group, its leaders, publications, blog posts, and affiliated projects that are officially endorsed by the organization and after thoughtful discussion the Board concluded that it was appropriate to include NOM on the index.
There were several factors that helped in our decision, many of which involved recent events. Such factors included connecting pedophilia and bestiality with homosexuality, advocating for more activism against the gay community, defaming children of gay parents, promoting false and fraudulent social science studies, money laundering, falsifying pictures and quotes, allowing activists to preach "death on homosexuals" and lastly, and what broke the camel's back for the Board, falsely stating partnership with NFL football teams.
The Board doesn't take these decisions on the index lightly without a proper vetting process and investigation into certain claims and incidents.
The Board must stress that the index is to be used only for educational, statistical, informational, and governmental purposes.
