Latino support for same-sex marriage grew in the last three years and increased from 50% in 2010 to 56% this year, reports the Field survey.
The number of Latinos who disagree has declined: 41% opposed in 2010 today only 35% reject it.
Moreover, support among voters in general for allowing same-sex marriage increased from 61% to 32%, which according to the Field survey represents a strong shift since 1977 when support was 28% and 59% disapproved.
The only subgroups that a majority opposed to gay unions are Republican registered voters, and voters who classified themselves as politically conservative.
The poll was conducted between 5 and 17 February with 834 registered voters in California responding. Its margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
