The Bogus Excuse of Religious Liberty

We have heard them say this term many times when debating about gay rights, in fact religious liberty is the most discussed subject by those who oppose any gay rights measure because, as they believe, gay rights infringe upon their 'religious liberty.' We have come to conclude that after much more closer examination that 'religious liberty' is rather a new coined item that has been peddled recently by the Church, specifically the Vatican and The Holy See.

Some have wondered what this term actually represents, and why would anybody mash two words that can be at odds with each other like "religious" and "liberty" since religious dogma is all about submission to certain beliefs and lifestyles and liberty can mean the opposite. But, in reality, we have been duped into believing that "liberty" actually means "freedom." It doesn't - that is why we have two distinct different words that mean totally different things.

"The monument by law can never be on land"

The word "liberty" actually dates back to early ship sailing. In every sense, modern western law has derived its roots from maritime admiralty law - or the law of the sea. When a ship docks at port the sailors would ask the captain if they can disembark the ship and go into town for a good time. If the captain decided to let them go for a while to do what they wanted (most of the time the captain said no) it was said that the sailors "were at liberty" or sometimes the ship "was at liberty" when its crew were given permission to leave the ship and roam the town.

Have you ever wondered why we have a Statue of "Liberty" and not a Statue of "Freedom?" Because the statue is "at liberty" - hence why the statue can only be placed in the water and not on land because then it would have to be called The Statue of Freedom. The monument by law can never be on land, it must remain at sea as reminder to the citizens (from the Catholic French) of the Republic that you are only "at liberty" to do what you want. Taken literally it means that we must first ask permission from the captain to gain our liberties, and by all means - asking for liberties is not freedom at all as you are at the whims of a superior authority, who may or may not grant you your "liberty."

If you are going to a city council meeting and waste your three minute "at liberty"-to-say-address to the city council about "religious liberty" you might want to know what you are talking about, and to those who care about language, history and culture (like our opposers claim that they do), we should take note as to why this language is important to anti-gay activists and The Vatican State in particular.

Looking at anti-gay activists, religious "liberty" now makes more sense. Under their theology only God (or the God's Vicar which is the Holy See) can grant you the liberty. To them God is the superior captain with the authority to grant liberty, whether God wants it or not, whether he agreed to this arrangement or not, it doesn't matter - to the anti-gay activist there is no "freedom" only "liberty" that can be granted at certain times and at the superior captain's whim and can be taken away at any time for any reason.

That is why to many of these people it is very easy to deny or even revoke gay Americans' rights so willfully because liberties easily granted can be, logically, easily taken away. Under a free society we do not need to ask any captain for any type of permission to do what we want, obviously the Church is not going to have any of that. The Church will and can only grant you certain "liberties" that can often change, be taken away or never granted but only dream about.

Our Republic was founded under the principles of real freedom when we decided to dust off the monarchies of Europe who were, and are still to this day, under the control of the Roman Church. But our Republic has been hijacked and taken over by sinister men who think they can helm the stern and act like the captain of the ship. Gay Americans didn't need to ask their neighbors if it was okay to bunk up together and be, in every sense of the word, "married." We are born a free people, yet we must ask for permission to do anything nowadays even to get married and fall in love, a basic human necessity.

Our Republic now turned a nation is "at liberty" but her gays have to remain on the ship while the straights can party all night in town. In the end, the argument, be it gay marriage or any other issue, is not about equality but rather how free do you want to be. If a person says that gays do not have the freedom to marry then the million dollar question of whether or not we are a free Republic has been unfortunately answered.

Religious liberty is simply spiritual and human enslavement under a new name at the cost of freedom.
