Homosexuality Does Not Threatened Civilization, But Ignorance and Apathy Do

We've all heard the mundane statements made by former child star Kirk Cameron on how homosexuality will destroy civilization. In fact he is not the only one. FROTHY Santorum didn't get his nickname for no reason. He has in the past, and continues to this very day, sought to regulate private behavior of consenting adults in the name of public morality. Such device is immoral and if FROTHY was smart enough he would know that regulating private behavior is the last thing those who hang on to the "religious freedom" meme would want since religious conscious is mostly in a person's mind and it is a private matter that one can choose to engage in or not. However, the religious right's utter hypocrisy doesn't stop here. Its not just "civil liberties for me and not for thee." It goes beyond that.

Since we are talking about threats to human civilization we have to come to understand what we mean by "civilization." Almost everybody that is opposed to freedom and liberty for gays and lesbians propose that enabling us to consent to matters of law and conduct, like that of marriage and sexuality, will in fact doom our current "civilization." For one, "civilization" contains the word "civil" meaning "order." In other words a civilization must, to become such, have some form of order. I do not recall any gays trying to disrupt society, although we have had people fly airplanes into buildings, their sexual orientation is not known, in fact I believe they did it because of religious beliefs. However, it would be ignorant to say that all religious people want to destroy civilization and terrorize people. But that hasn't stop some religious people to use such logic against the gay community.

Such arguments are not only used against other minorities but what really bugs me is how many people are willing to repeat history and accept such mundane and irrelevant distracting reasoning. But of course, the reason why they are so at ease to spout such arrogance against a vulnerable minority like ours has to do with the fact that many gay people fall for their traps. I do believe that many of these "wackadoodles" want a reaction from us, especially one sprinkled with anger and filled with rage in order to validate their supposed victimization even though heterosexuals make up at least 95% of the population. And some of us fall for it and give them what they want so they can send out fundraising letters pleading how they need money to combat the gays in "brown shirts."

It is essential that we call their bluff and challenge, not their intention, but their blissful ignorance by simply pointing out how these "morality defenders" are barking up the wrong tree. There is no "culture war." That is just an illusion created by the controllers of media and politics. They are not reporting this so called war but are in fact creating it. Many of these non-war wars like the "war on drugs" have been a failure and mostly beneficial for those engaging in the conduct for which the war was intended to eradicate. Participating in these wars is just silly. And for those who engage in this imaginary culture war against homosexuals one can only feel sorry for such lost souls who are so blinded by their own ignorance that they become apathetic to the moral issues of public behavior that nobody from the Family Research Council/Santorum camp want to address.

There is a huge difference between private morality like religion, sexuality, and marriage and public morality which entails institution whose confidence in them is heavily relied upon for the cohesion of our society: namely the banking, monetary, corporate, and political and foreign policy spheres. Questions of public morality such as whether or not to nuke a nation to oblivion, bailout rich bankers, educate the poor, find a cure for AIDS and cancer, finding free energy, and contacting beings from other worlds are much more important and worth wild to answer and ponder. Uterus managing, probing vaginas, stopping gay weddings, and even yes, stopping natal circumcision, are not questions or important public morality since these are things that each individual can and should control on their own, and it is based upon their religious, personal upbringing - not suggesting  that they are not important, for they are important to lots of people, but they are not issues that should concern or drive public morality since public morality can and do have a direct effect against many people across many boundaries and nations. When politicians make under the table deals or engage in insider trading, that is a concern for the public. When bankers start stealing money from innocent people, that is a concern for the public. When corporations buy up congress and the courts to kill their competition and introduce laws that kill the free market and innovation, that is also a concern for the public. If the public doesn't uphold the high moral standards of individuals who have in their hands our money, wealth, and prosperity then the public does not deserve to proclaim any sort of morality against anything. We have become backwards if we look the other way when bankers steal 2.1 billion dollars from private accounts or when members of congress engage in inside trading but scream and foam at the mouth when we see a gay couple kissing and our morality as a public is thwarted and our judgement severely compromised.

This is why I do not take the GOP seriously anymore. They have lost me these last couple of years. Since the beginning they have said that they are working on jobs, jobs, jobs, when in actuality its fetuses, homos, and sex. And I'm sick of it. We can rightfully blame Obama for the lost jobs, and I will be the first to place that blame squarely on him as well for his corporatist intervention in derailing American industrialism and innovation, but lets not forget that we have fifty states, and the majority of them are under GOP control and still even in those states recovery has been dismal. This is the outright result of the public not addressing real and true public morality issues and instead are distracted with ignorant even child-like arguments that belong in the playground. I cannot seriously believe that we as adults have wasted our energy and time on subjects that rightfully belong in the gutter or are meant to be punchlines for strip-club jokes. With so much at stake we have sacrificed everything we have worked for because we have failed to understand the difference between what is important and what is personal, as Robert Reich states:

But America’s problem isn’t a breakdown in private morality. It’s a breakdown in public morality. What Americans do in their bedrooms is their own business. What corporate executives and Wall Street financiers do in boardrooms and executive suites affects all of us. There is moral rot in America but it’s not found in the private behavior of ordinary people. It’s located in the public behavior of people who control our economy and are turning our democracy into a financial slush pump. It’s found in Wall Street fraud, exorbitant pay of top executives, financial conflicts of interest, insider trading, and the outright bribery of public officials through unlimited campaign “donations.”

Until we get to know the difference and what is really at stake here I simply cannot take people like FROTHY Santorum, the GOP, the religious right, the US Bishops seriously. Right now there is threat against our very way life and sadly many chose, willfully and apathetically, not to address it.

But then the answer from many of these supposed "morality defenders" is to continue to live in denial. That attacking Wall Street and white collar criminality is simply not fun enough and it is un-American, so real "Christians" ought to look the other way and instead fight against homos and dead fetuses.

I really laugh each time a politician makes this recycled statement that "we are a Christian country" and the whole bible and guns spiel. WRONG. We are not a "Christian Country" we are a "Monetary Country" whose laws are Jewish, its system of government is Roman, and its philosophy is Greek. Our country does not run on Jesus, it runs on MONEY. Sadly a very few bunch of bullies have a fetish for the green. They are money whores who are bent on destroying our system of finance and banking in order to retain all the wealth and power to themselves. Yet Christians seem very oblivious or even apathetic to this reality. They think that Jesus Christ wants them to have a holly war with gays and feminists. But if we were to recall the story of Jesus Christ he never once got angry or raised his voice against gays or feminists or even prostitutes. Only one time did Jesus Christ every raised his voice in anger, and that was when the money changers took over God's temple. He was so enraged by the thought that weaselly, slick talking, deal making, opportunist were in his very presence that he took out a whip and kicked them all out.   

But today's neo-Christians are beyond cowards since they refuse to deal with the 800 pound gorilla in the room and instead attack a small unpopular minority. This is why we are NOT a Christian country.

And so the money changers on Wall Street have taken over the temple and are laughing all the way to the bank. I hope you right wing Christians are happy, because Jesus Christ would have cleaned house by now.
