Kim Jong-IL is dead, what's next for LGBT North Koreans?

Well who really knows. The socialist-totalitarian nation is so secretive we do not know exactly whats is going to happen to LGBTs in that country being that we do not know for sure how this oppressive regime has treated its people, let alone LGBTs.

Wikipedia tells us that there is no specific law that criminalizes homosexuality, but since the socialist-totalitarian state is so invasive in the North Koreans' lives that its taboo views on homosexuality has pretty much made homosexuality 'unofficially' illegal. Here is the supposed 'official' Kim-Jung-Il's stance on the subject:

"Due to tradition in Korean culture, it is not customary for individuals of any sexual orientation to engage in public displays of affection. As a country that has embraced science and rationalism, the DPRK recognizes that many individuals are born with homosexuality as a genetic trait and treats them with due respect. Homosexuals in the DPRK have never been subject to repression, as in many capitalist regimes around the world. However, North Koreans also place a lot of emphasis on social harmony and morals. Therefore, the DPRK rejects many characteristics of the popular gay culture in the West, which many perceive to embrace consumerism, classism and promiscuity."
What we can actually report is that North Korea dislikes any form of PDA's, so that means no gay pride parades, no GSAs.... no nothing. Just daily worship of our wonderful dear leader.

There have been reports of severe discrimination for gays in employment, especially in government positions. It is also known that North Korea keeps a heavy weight on eugenics and is heavily involved in the reproduction business of its citizens, making sure that the next generation of socialists would be strong and continue its perverse totalitarian nightmare of worshiping a dictator.

In the end, gays do not fit this 'socialist model' so heavy pressure is placed upon gay and lesbian citizens to marry and have children. In fact the totalitarian government goes as far as to tell its citizens how to "trim their hair in accordance to the socialist lifestyle"... meaning that men and women were expected to dress up according to their gender, so any gender-bending is looked upon as "capitalistic" and embracing "western values"... yeah you mean the western values of liberty, individual freedom, and free expression. Its that dreadful word that Kim-Jong Il, and most likely his heir-apparent son Kim-Jong Un, FREEDOM, that they heavily despise.

All socialist model countries have either criminalized or persecuted gay people. The Soviet Union under Stalin made homosexuality illegal carrying a heavy sentence of hard labor in the gulags and even being executed. Maoist China executed thousands of gays as well, and it wasn't until the nineties that it finally decriminalized homosexuality. Fidel Castro's Cuba as well jailed and persecuted gays and lesbians. Though today this communist leader now regrets his homophobic-communistic oppression against gays, the country still does not allow gays to form clubs or organizations. There is talk of legalizing civil unions in that country but the bill has not moved an inch. Many socialist countries in Africa also criminalize homosexuality like Uganda, Libya, Zimbabwe among others. The only socialist-totalitarian country that has been somewhat supportive of gay people's right to exist has been Hugo Chavez's Venezuela. In fact it was the only socialist state to sign the UN's human rights deceleration, while China, Russia, Africa, and North Korea among other communist/socialist nations objected to such deceleration, some even advocating total censorship (like in Russia) to outright execution (like in Uganda or Libya).

Is there any hope? Maybe. We hope that these runaway "dear leaders" recognize their atrocity against humanity, and against human freedom. Because after all, we gay people are still... well human.
